Your Body Is A Wonderland

Which Swimsuit Are You?
Whether you want to cover up or show it off, the Spring 2011 RTW swimsuits have a little something for everyone.  I for one love the beach, though I’m limited to the fist pumping Jersey Shore beaches, that doesn’t mean I have to sacrifice my style.  When it comes to swimwear I tend to lean towards the boyish prepster look, such as the Tommy Hilfiger outfit below- a pair of boys swim trunks are also in my beach bag-which are great look for girls who are not comfortable in the itty bitty bikinis.  Before you go shopping for a swimsuit this season, take a look at these swimsuits and ask which girl are you or which swimsuit represents the person you want to be.

The Weary Blues

The Pink Flowers & The Blue Denim
Droning a drowsy syncopated tune,
Rocking back and forth to a mellow croon,
      I heard a Negro play.
Down on Lenox Avenue the other night
By the pale dull pallor of an old gas light
      He did a lazy sway. . . .
      He did a lazy sway. . . .
To the tune o’ those Weary Blues.
With his ebony hands on each ivory key
He made that poor piano moan with melody.
      O Blues!
Swaying to and fro on his rickety stool
He played that sad raggy tune like a musical fool.
      Sweet Blues!
Coming from a black man’s soul.
      O Blues!
In a deep song voice with a melancholy tone
I heard that Negro sing, that old piano moan—
“Ain’t got nobody in all this world,
Ain’t got nobody but ma self.
I’s gwine to quit ma frownin’
And put ma troubles on the shelf.”

Thump, thump, thump, went his foot on the floor.
He played a few chords then he sang some more—
      “I got the Weary Blues
      And I can’t be satisfied.
      Got the Weary Blues
      And can’t be satisfied—
      I ain’t happy no mo’
And I wish that I had died.”
And far into the night he crooned that tune.
The stars went out and so did the moon.
The singer stopped playing and went to bed
While the Weary Blues echoed through his head.
He slept like a rock or a man that’s dead

-Langston Hughes

Side Bar: the poem has nothing to do with denim, or the spring.  But my teacher read it in English class on thursday and I loved it, the whole Harlem Renissance Era was pretty awesome.

Denim jeans are the perfect butt cuffing must have item of the spring season.  While many designers are focusing on skirts and dresses in their spring collections, it's not quite hot enough to walk around with the bare legs that every fashionista longs to show off during the warm weather seasons.  But finding those perfect pairs of jeans this spring could be even more rewarding then finding that perfect polka dot dress.

And as it gets hot enough to shed some material to beat the heat and show off the last minute gym workouts in March, grab a razor and some scissors and make a few adjustments.  I’m not saying pick up your favorite pair of True Religion bell bottom jeans and put a knife too it, but if you have an old pair of Blank’s or an old pair of A&F jeans, like my friend Taylor has on in the first picture, you should get a little scissor happy and have a little fun.

To say were a little too close is an understatement
Me & My Bff Brittani come out in the same jeggings, someones got to budge
Jeggings countinue to pop up everywhere
These are my fav pair of Lucky Brand jeggings I bought last summer
So yes, I won the battle!

Jane Birkin, Lou Doillon, Emma Watson

Pure Threads
Emma Watson in March 2011's Vogue wearing a blouse from her collection that everyone is anxiously awaiting to be released.

Jane Birkin

To say Jane Birkin is a fashion icon is an understatement.  Words like muse, inspiration, style Buddha, are more suitable characteristics-to say the least-Jane has left a permanent stiletto shoe print on the fashion industry.  Such am imprint resulted in the Hermes collection of Birkin bags-named after the actress/singer-that featured a simple, exclusive, sleek look that would be praised for its style adding poise from the release of the bag in 1984 to the 21st century.
Aside from the bag, Jane made the biggest influence of them all on her daughter Lou Doillon, who is also an actress, model, and of course fashionista.  Lou, though featured in color as appose to black and white, is clearly following in her mother’s footsteps and taking this little industry I devote my life to by storm.  Lou’s urban, vintage style, seems as if she may have been experimenting in her mother’s closet from the 70’s to come up with her uniquely chic look.
But Lou Doillon isn’t the only young celeb fashionista to have been inspired by Jane’s 1970’s simplistic looks.  Emma Watson has collaborated with designer Alberta Ferretti, to launch her own collection, Pure Threads, which will feature Bohemian dresses, lace denim, and environmentally friendly feminine blouses.  Watson was featured in Vogue’s Power Issue this March, with a white blouse from her collection, that screamed girl next door.  I would not be surprise to have seen Watson’s inspiration, Jane Birkin, in the same exact blouse back in the 70’s.

McQueen's Savage Beauty Exhibit

Racking My Brain
-Why there is still snow on the ground in New Jersey is puzzling

-How long I am going to be grounded

-Will my mom notice I took my debit card back, and I'm highly debating whether to buy these Jeffrey Campbell shoes with the money

-Where my Urban Outfitters floral corset I got for $5 has disappeared to (suspecting one of my friends houses)

-Should I focus more on stripes this spring, or polka dots

-The mean faces and secret screw you gestures I can give to my history teacher if I do not recieve an A on my 14 page research paper on The Victorian Era

After Considering All of That..
Although The Alexander McQueen exhibit may not open at the MET until May 4th, as I explored nymag.com, I of course went to their style section and found some exclusive picture that were captured at the preview of the exhibit held by no other than Anna Wintour

Wrong In All The Right Ways

Born This Way
They may not do it the way others do, but strange is in, normal is out.

Today I started my post not knowing exactly what I was going to write about, all I had were these two pictures of my favorite female artist Lauryn Hill, and my Adele playlist on Pandora as my inspiration.  When combing the rhythmic indie sound of this playlist with the mood that I'm in, the topic of today came quite easy.  Instead of giving you a detailed explanation into what the pictures represent and the people in them I will let you see for yourself based on my captions, why I picked these particular people and the fashion and historical impact they have with their less than normal attitudes, style, and outlook on life.
